South Tampa Shop-Along
When: Friday, May 9th 5-9, Saturday, May 10th 10-5 Where: South Tampa Why: Come to this “seen-and-be-seen” event in South Tampa which centers around five home and garden stores. 10% of purchases made during the event will go to the Tampa Bay Business Committee for the Arts High School Arts Stars Scholarship Program. Complimentary food and drink will be served in all stores and those visiting all five will be automatically entered in a drawing to win one of five prizes. Pops in the Park
When and Where: Friday, May 9th Why: Let me count the ways Baby News Bits loves Pops in the Park…Fresh spring air, picnics, families bonding and amazing music all await you this spring, courtesy of Target and the Florida Orchestra. Their Pops in the Park is a series of outdoor FREE concerts designed to be gobbled up and enjoyed by every member of the family. Great for just mom and dad or bring the kiddies too. The last one is scheduled for Friday, May 9th, 7:30 pm, Lowry Park Zoo
Infant Child and CPR Class
When: May 8, 16 and 30th 6-9 pm Where: St. Joseph’s Women’s Pavilion 4th floor classrooms Why: This class costs only $30 to attend but could be priceless in the health of your child. It teaches life-saving and choking relief for children up to age 8. Call (813) 870-4747 to register.
Mother’s Day Tea
When: Saturday, May 10th and Sunday, May 11th, Seating 11, 1 and 3 pm Where: Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) Why: Treat mom to tea among the butterflies! This tea service includes high tea, adoption of a Cassius Blue Butterfly, entrance to MOSI exhibits and entrance to one standard IMAX Dome Theatre show. $29.95 for members, 39.95 for non-members, 20.95 for children (2-12). Children under 2 admitted free. Please call (813) 987-6358 by May 8th to reserve.
Mother’s Day at the Zoo
When: Sunday, May 11th Where: Lowry Park Zoo Why: From 9:30-5, moms will enjoy free admission to the zoo with the purchase of a full-price child’s admission ticket.
Experience Nature in a New Way
When: Thursday, May 15th , 10-11:30 Where: Al Lopez Park Why: Go to this outdoor structured play date where kids will be encouraged to explore the great outdoors by making bird feeders, binoculars and go on a scavenger hunt. Sponsored by Parents as Teachers. Call (813) 356-1293, Ext. 210 to RSVP.
Sunset Cinema
When: Saturday, May 17th , Gates open at 6/film at 8:15 Where: Cotanchobee Fort Brooke Park, Downtown on the River Why: Bank of America partners with The Tampa Theatre to bring free movies under the stars. This outdoor traveling picture show will feature The Wizard of Oz for this month’s special event. Come early to get your spot and enjoy pre-movie entertainment. Bring a picnic basket and blankets and get ready for a wonderful evening with family and friends. Visit www.tampatheatre.org for more information, including driving directions.
Boot Camp for New Dads
When: Saturday, May 17th Where: Brandon Regional Hospital Why: This unique father-to-father class teaches all the basics: diapering, swaddling, feeding and supporting the new mom, all in a relaxed, friendly environment. Spans all economic levels, ages and cultures. Call (813) 356-1293 ext. 226 to register.
Tools for Positive Behavior Change
When: Mid-June Where: Baby Bungalow Why: Get the tools you need to manage your child’s behavior before it gets out of control. The Bungalow’s Tools for Positive Behavior class will give you strategies and tips beyond ‘time out’ delivered from a USF certified behavior analyst. Call 356-1293. This 8-week class is $75.
