Kids in Charge Birthday Party
When:
Saturday, July 12th ,10am-4pm Where: MOSI Why: Come to the Museum of Science and Industry this Saturday for a day of fun as MOSI celebrates the third year of their Kids In Charge area. Special one day features like a DJ, bounce house, inflatable obstacle courses and even snow cones and caramel apples. Plus, many craft stations and storytelling from the Hillsborough County Library. Free with MOSI admission.

Month of June Where: Jan K. Platt Library Why: Wonderful story time programs are available from libraries throughout Hillsborough County. The following times and programs are for Platt Library on Manhattan, but if this is not your local branch, check www.hcplc.org and find the closest one.

Toddler Time/Tuesdays/June 8th/15th/22nd/29th/10:15am and 11am
Baby Time/Wednesdays/June 9th/16th/23rd/30th/10:15am and 11am
Story Time/Thursdays/June 10th/17th/24th/31st/10:15am

Red Cross Comets Presents at Library
When:
July 10th and 17th Where: Jan K. Platt Library Why: Bring the children to the library for cautionary tales and fun when The Red Cross presents stories meant to promote safety. The first tale is Thursday, July 10th and is for children 3-8 at 3pm. It will be Safety First/Whale Tales. The next performance is The Three Little Pigs and the Hurricane/Healthy Living Habits and is for children preK-3. This is also at 3pm, but on Thursday, July 17th.

Animal Safari Stories
When:
Thursday, July 24th Where: Center Place in Brandon Why: Brandon’s Civic Center, The Center Place, is featuring two performances by Katie Adams and Her Make Believe Theatre who will delight young children with three stories of animals and the wild. Two performances, one at 10:15am and one at 11:45am, with ticket prices at just $6 for children over the age of two. Tickets must be purchased in advance, so visit www.centerplacebrandon.com for ticket info.

Florida Aquarium News
When:
Ongoing until fall Where: The Florida Aquarium Why: The newest scoop from the aquarium is that they will be busy building a new exhibit called Ocean Commotion. This exhibit is slated to open in October of 2008. Due to construction of this exhibit, there will be parts of the aquarium (specifically The Sea Hunt Gallery) that will be closed from time to time. Check their homepage, www.flaquarium.com before going to get the latest updates. Also, they are looking for footage of kids playing in the water at the beach, children snorkeling, swimming, etc. to include as part of this exhibit. If you are interested in submitting footage of your family, visit their site and click on the Ocean Commotion link on the homepage.

The Adventures of Robin Hood at The Tampa Theatre

Sunday, July 20th, 3pm Where: The Tampa Theatre Why: An oldie but goodie, this 1938 Robin Hood classic is sure to impress adults and delight older kids who love this adventurer. This version was even nominated for best picture! Only $8 a ticket gets you a seat in their stunning, timeless theatre.

The Backyardigans Live, The Tale of the Mighty Knights
When:
July 26th-27th 11am, 2pm and 5pm Where: Carol Morsani Hall Why: The popular Nick TV show comes to the stage in an adventure to face a dragon and return a prized egg to King Pablo. Tickets can be purchased at www.tbpac.com

Couple Time
An Artistic Celebration
When:
Saturday, July 11th , 7:30pm-10:30pm Where: Hyde Park Village Why: Come celebrate the Tampa Artist Emporium’s first birthday with a party that is sure to inspire. Live painting and sculpture demonstrations, complimentary wine bar, food from Timpano, fine art and prize raffle, new artist exhibits and studio portraits from Daniel Goncalves will all be part of this event. Event is from 5pm-9pm.

WaZoo at the Zoo

Saturday, August 2nd Where: Lowry Park Zoo Why: Noted by The USA Today as “One of the Top 10 Beer Festivals in the Country” WaZoo is a fun way to spend a warm Saturday evening.
