[romantic
getaway in vermont]
break
For
those of us living in Florida, Jamaica is not always
the vacation we are looking for. Sure, sunny beaches
can be romantic, but considering our own local stash of
these sandy gems, something more unique may be in
order. Enter Stowe, Vermont, snowy playground in the
winter and colorful eye-candy in the fall. A recent
trip to Stowe with my hubby (kids wore out grandma and
grandpa back home) proved what all the travel magazines
are saying: Stowe is a magical destination, no matter
the time of year.

A short
flight from Newark International into small Burlington
Airport
and a short straightforward
40 minute car drive - through scenic red barns, forests
and mountains - takes you to Stowe. While there are a
multitude of B&B’s and Inns that line Mountain
Road, The Stone Hill Inn, a Select Registry chosen Inn,
proved to be a winner in more ways than one. This
nine-room Inn was built in 1997 for the purpose of
being an Inn, totally devoted to the comfort of their
guests. While the building itself exudes plenty of
warmth and charm with exposed wood and stone, it
provides the conviences of home—i.e. no sharing
bathrooms with your down-the-hall guests. Each of the
rooms boasts a sunken Jacuzzi tub for two, double sided
fireplace, doors that exit onto the grounds, a
king-sized bed, television with DVD player (check out
their awesome selection of movies in the lobby) and a
sitting area. Plus, there are two spacious common areas
outside your room to enjoy, whether playing a game of
pool or reading a book by the towering, stone
fireplace.

Innkeepers Amy and Hap
Jordan are delightful; present and helpful when you
need them, quiet and inconspicuous when you don’t.
Their attention to detail is superb, especially when it
comes to their full, gourmet breakfasts. Always given a
choice of three entrees (apple and brie omelet, orange
pecan waffles, strawberry & blueberry crepes to
name a few) you will delight in drinking hot coffee at
one of their nine individual tables in their
glass-walled, breakfast room overlooking the grounds;
stark white Aspens and naked Maples in a sea of snow in
February, orange, red and yellow parfait trees in
October (changing of leaves hit their peak here early
October).

Known
for its use of fresh ingredients and commitment to
local farmers and industry, you will be hard pressed to
find a bad eatery in Stowe. Almost all, whether from
conscience or peer pressure, serve the finest Vermont
cheeses, local produce and eggs, and even serve
Saratoga Springs water, bottled in nearby Saratoga New
York. From super casual pubs and local dives to fine
chef-owned and operated restaurants, Stowe will appeal
to any appetite. Some favorites included Hen of the
Wood, a fine restaurant located in an old, restored
Grist Mill and Norma’s, a slightly more casual place
tucked away in the Top Notch Resort and Spa.

The
Stone Hill Inn is just the place for tired mommies and
daddies (or babymooners expecting to be a tired mommy
and daddy soon); kids are not allowed. But if you are
looking for a getaway that is just for you and your
one-in-only, The Stone Hill Inn will exceed your
expectations, www.stonehillinn.com

For a
family oriented trip, try the Ski Resort at Smuggler’s
Notch and The Top Notch Resort, both offering fine
accommodations with a focus on family fun and
accommodations.
